Youth Conference Secretariat Message for NDF of ‘Azamat

17 May 2013

All Bahá’ís in Peninsular Malaysia

Dearly loved friends,

Greetings to the friends gathered at this blessed Nineteen Day Feast of ‘Azamat.

It is now exactly 38 days since the Spiritual Assembly of Malaysia announced the setting up of a Youth Conference Secretariat at the National Office. Today we are pleased to share with you some updates regarding the youth conferences as outlined in the following text:

a.     The Universal House of Justice in its letter of 1 May announced an additional 19 Youth Conferences around the globe, raising the total number of the conferences to 114. This welcome development is due to the overwhelming response from “the Bahá’í youth and their friends—indeed, of Bahá’í communities worldwide and is “indicative of the magnitude of the reservoirs of energy and devotion that the youth possess”.

With great joy, we would like to highlight the bounty of yet another Youth Conference set to take place in Bidor, Perak. This is particularly exciting as more Bahá’í youth along with youth from the wider community will have the opportunity to attend these Youth Conferences.

b.     The venues for both the Northern and Southern Youth Conferences, after much deliberation and consultation, is now confirmed as follows:

-  Southern Youth Conference: Golden Straits Resort, Port Dickson. The accommodation in Port Dickson is expected to cost either RM200 or RM230 depending on the type of accommodation. Other higher cost accommodation may also be available as the number of participants surpass our initial estimates.
-  Northern Youth Conference: AIMST University College, Sg.Petani.  The accommodation for the northern region is fixed at RM150 for all participants.

The registration form will be soon finalized and released to the community in the coming days. We look forward to your immediate response to avoid any disappointment.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the fantastic work done by the task forces in the North and the South to secure the venues for the Youth Conferences.

A Facebook group and a blog has been set up to keep friends up-to-date about the Youth Conferences on a regular basis and we hope as many friends can find the time to access the material and leave comments, suggestions, and/or pose any questions they might have. You can find these two web pages online using the following URLs:

"It is on young and active Bahá’ís, like you, that the Guardian centers all his hopes for the future progress and expansion of the Cause and it is on their shoulders that he lays all the responsibility for the upkeep of the spirit of selfless service among their fellow-believers. Without that spirit, no work can be successfully achieved. With it triumph, though hardly-won, is but inevitable. You should, therefore, try all your best to carry aflame within you the torch of faith, for through it you will surely find guidance, strength and eventual success."
(Shoghi Effendi, Arohanui - Letters to New Zealand, p. 33)

With loving Bahá’í greetings,
Youth Conference Secretariat

Universal House of Justice's letter dated 1 May 2013

Dear loved friends,

We are happy to share with you the joyous message (Dated 1st May 2013) from the Universal House of Justice announcing an additional 19 youth conferences due to an overwhelming response. One of these 19 conferences is located in our very own Bidor in the state of Perak!

Let us rejoice and refocus our prayers for the ever increasing success of this recently announced youth conference. The content of the message is as follow:

"Dearly loved Friends,

So overwhelming has been the response of the Baha'i youth and their friends—indeed, of Baha'i communities worldwide—to the announcement of 95 conferences to be convened around the world between July and October, that existing arrangements now seem unlikely to accommodate the number of youth wishing to attend, and it is apparent that a further complement of gatherings is therefore required. With great joy, we take this opportunity, when the members of National Spiritual Assemblies are gathered in consultation at the Eleventh International Baha'i Convention, to announce today our decision to convene an additional 19 conferences in the following locations: Bertoua, Bidor, Biratnagar, Brisbane, Cagayan de Oro, Georgetown (Guyana), Houston, Kampong Thorn, Kigoma, Los Angeles, Mahikeng, Milne Bay, Minneapolis, Montreal, Nuku'alofa, Nundu (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Seattle, Vientiane, and Washington, D.C.

This welcome development is indicative of the magnitude of the reservoirs of energy and devotion that the youth possess. Every effort must be made to assist them to continue to act on their responsibilities, and we look to them to expand the horizons of what the Baha'i community can accomplish. We offer thanks to the Blessed Beauty for endowing His youthful followers with an immense collective capacity for service, and we beseech Him that it might be realized in benefit to humankind.
"

What does Youth Conference Secretariat do?

Youth Conference Secretariat is set-up at the National Office to further aid and assist the process of pre-registration and registration. Its all important task is to ensure that this process moves as smoothly as possible and that ample notification and updates are provided to the community from time to time.

While the pre-registration is under way, the Youth Conference Secretariat has created a blog to provide updates to the community on a regular basis. A Facebook group was also set up to provide an informal platform for friends to engage the Youth Conference Secretariat in a two-way conversation.

Friends with inquiries, suggestions, and/or comments can contact the Youth Conference Secretariat via youthconf2013@gmail.com

Special Consideration

Dearly loved friends, please note that the Special Consideration Request Form has been taken down.

Following consultation with the Spiritual Assembly and Counselor Dr. Lee Lee Loh Ludher, the guidelines of the age of participation were reviewed and final adjustments were made. In these new guidelines, only those born between 1 March 1999 and 30 August 1999 (14 to 14.5 years old) may request for special consideration. This request should be expressed to your respective coordinators who will in turn refer your case to the Regional Councils. The Regional Councils are then asked to make a recommendation to the Spiritual Assembly on your behalf.

If you are uncertain whether or not you are eligible to apply for special consideration, please visit our post on Age Eligibility
